There have been seven car fires in Crimea since the beginning of the year
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Since the beginning of the year, there have been seven fires related to car fires in Crimea. The most common reason is a short circuit in the electrical wiring.
A car is a real “warehouse of flammable materials.” It burns out completely in 4 — 6 minutes. Therefore, if you find yourself in a car engulfed in fire, you need to leave the scene of the incident as quickly as possible and move away to a safe distance of 10–15 meters, since if the car catches fire, the gas tank may explode,” Crimean firefighters note. — The fire safety of a car depends on the vigilance and responsibility of its owner, on his compliance with the rules and regulations of operation. In addition, an important safety condition is the presence of a working fire extinguisher in the car.
Specialists of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea advise:
— In the event of a fire, it is important to remain calm. It is necessary to stop the car on the side of the road, away from people, other cars, buildings and structures.
“Then you need to turn off the engine, disembark the passengers, set the handbrake and take the documents from the car.
— It is important to remember that you cannot stay in the cabin for more than 90 seconds.
— If smoke comes from under the hood of the car, open it carefully due to the risk of fire from the influx of oxygen. In this case, you should extinguish the fire only with a powder fire extinguisher.
— If you cannot open the hood, you can direct a stream of fire extinguisher from below between the engine and the wheel arches.
— If the fire extinguisher is empty and the fire is not extinguished, you can knock out the flames with earth or sand.
— If there is a fire in the electrical wiring, disconnect the battery terminals if possible without risk of burns.
In case of emergency, you must call 101 or 112.
