There was a stream of believers in Sevastopol to venerate the miraculous copy of the Goden Cross

CrimeaPRESS reports:

From September 2 to November 4, 2023, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, an All-Russian missionary religious procession is taking place, dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the appearance of the Holy Cross near the village of Godenovo.

On September 25, the shrine was met in Sevastopol, where the chairman of the Synodal Missionary Department, His Eminence Bishop Euthymius of Lukhovitsky, co-served by the clergy of the Sevastopol deanery, led the Divine Liturgy in the Intercession Cathedral. Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol Vladimir Nemtsev and numerous believers prayed together with the clergy. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, a prayer service was served in front of the Goden Cross, after which Bishop Euthymius addressed the worshipers with a pastoral word, in which he especially noted “the importance of unification around our homeland and the Cross of the Lord in difficult times for our country.” Throughout the day, an inexhaustible stream of believers came to the cathedral, going to venerate the great shrine, pray and venerate the Godin Cross,” noted the press service of the Sevastopol Deanery.

The religious procession, dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the appearance of the Goden cross near Rostov the Great, takes place from September 2 to November 4 through 27 cities of Russia and Belarus: from north to south (Murmansk — Crimea) and from west to east (Brest — Vladivostok).

Along the route of the church procession, the organizers hold various cultural and educational events: meetings with famous Orthodox missionaries and cultural figures, screenings of feature films and documentaries on Orthodox themes, spiritual and educational conversations about the Russian world and traditional values.

The Goden Cross is one of the most famous miraculous crosses in the world. It was created in Byzantium, and on May 9, 1423, it miraculously appeared within the boundaries of Rostov the Great.

According to eyewitnesses, the cross miraculously descended from the sky in a blaze of unusually bright light and stopped on a swampy area, which immediately became dry and turned into a hill.

There is a second miracle associated with the Goden cross: the temple built in Rostov to store this shrine was moved by invisible force to a hill that grew up among the swamps. At the same time, a voice was heard from heaven: “In this place build My church, and this mountain will be great and many miracles will happen to those who come here to pray with faith, and many healings will be performed.” From then on, miracles and healings began to occur at the cross.

In the 1930s, the atheists tried to destroy the cross — they threw it into the fire, chopped it with an ax, sawed it with a saw, doused it with hydrochloric acid, but the shrine remained intact. The miraculous cross was thrown into a deep ditch and covered with stones. Secretly at night, he was removed from there by believers in the village of Godenovo, located not far from Pereslavl-Zalessky. Since then, the cross has been in the village church in the name of St. John Chrysostom. Since 1997, this temple has been the courtyard of the St. Nicholas Convent.
