CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, senior warrant officer of the internal service Dmitry Suslyakov, assistant chief of the guard of the 4th fire and rescue unit of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the city of Sevastopol, was honored. Due to his years of service, he completed his career in the emergency department.

I spent almost 28 years serving in the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. Looking back, I hope I did a lot of good. It’s not for me to judge… But the Ministry of Emergency Situations also gave me a lot: it taught me discipline, determination, and a consistent approach to life. Therefore, I am sincerely grateful to the service and my teamsays Dmitry.

Workdays are behind us — thousands of calls and hundreds of fires put out. But, before heading towards life changes, Dmitry again put on his combat jacket and helmet, jumped into a fire truck and made the shortest, but most exciting trip in his practice: to the front of the unit, where his colleagues were waiting for him.

There were different cases. And forest fires, when we spent two, three days without food and without sleep, running through the mountains and extinguishing them, and saving lives, and eliminating the consequences of the blackout in 2015, when we worked at night, seven days a week, installing light in the city towers. From recent cases, a woman came and said that she went out to a neighbor, and a small child stayed at home and slammed the door. Terletsky Street, fourth floor — and we went there, the neighbors from the fifth floor let us onto their balcony, I lowered the rope, and raised the assault ladder. And I’ve already tied myself up, I’m going down, swinging, because there was no other way to get there. And I already see a child on the balcony, his eyes frightened. We climbed in, opened the door, everything ended well— recalls Dmitry.

The ceremony of seeing off the firefighter to his well-deserved retirement became spectacular and touching. According to the tradition of the emergency department, you can retire only by washing away the soot of fires: the trunks are used, and colleagues doused Dmitry Suslyakov with water pressure from them. Small splashes on the face, like tears. But the main thing is hidden in his heart: fireproof courage, steel will and devotion to the precepts of the firefighting brotherhood.
