They steal! Sevastopol police warns — on vacation you need to be extremely careful
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Summer is the time for vacations, hiking and boat trips. However, so that the rest is not overshadowed by the crime committed against you, the Sevastopol police recommend taking precautions.
Many citizens go on holiday to other regions, wanting to see relatives and friends. At the same time, one should not forget that intruders can take advantage of your long absence and commit theft with penetration into the home. In order to minimize the risk of burglary, it is recommended not to tell unfamiliar people about the upcoming departure and not to publish photos from the vacation spot on social networks before returning. Ask family and friends whom you trust to look after the apartment and, to create the effect of the presence of residents, take mail from the mailbox. Since money and jewelry most often become the subject of criminal encroachments, we recommend storing valuables in a strong safe. We remind you that the most reliable way to protect your home is a burglar alarm.
When going to sea, you should not take with you a significant amount of money and expensive property that can attract the attention of criminals. It is recommended to visit the beach together with relatives and friends who can look after your belongings while swimming. In no case do not leave things unattended or under the supervision of unfamiliar citizens.
In warm summer weather, many Sevastopol residents and guests of the city prefer to ride a bicycle, moped or scooter. To prevent two-wheeled vehicles from being stolen, we do not recommend leaving it on the street or on the landing, even if the entrance door is locked and you leave for a very short time. If you still need to leave, then fasten the two-wheeled vehicle with a special cable with a reliable lock. It is desirable to fasten a bicycle (moped) by the wheel and frame, and if the cable allows, by both wheels and the frame. In addition to the cable, you can install a bicycle alarm. To prevent an attacker from taking possession of your means of individual mobility through deceit and breach of trust, do not transfer it to unfamiliar citizens under the pretext of «driving».
To reduce the risk of pickpocketing, it is recommended to keep money and documents in the front pockets of your trousers or in the inside pockets of your clothes. Do not count or display large sums of money in crowded places or in the presence of suspicious persons. In order not to become a victim of a crime, do not appear drunk on the street and do not drink alcoholic beverages with unfamiliar citizens.
If you have suffered from a crime, then you must immediately contact the nearest territorial unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or call 102.
