Three coins of the 19th century were handed over to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation by Crimean Customs
CrimeaPRESS reports:
By a court decision, the coins identified and seized at the Dzhankoy checkpoint in 2021 from a Ukrainian citizen were recognized as cultural value and became the property of the Russian Federation.
In November 2021, officials of the Dzhankoy customs post of the Crimean customs, during customs control of persons arriving on foot into the territory of the Russian Federation, identified three coins from a Ukrainian citizen: a coin with a face value of 1 kopeck of 1882, minted under ruler Alexander III in St. Petersburg mint, a 1-kopeck coin from 1914 and a 3-kopeck coin from 1909, made under the reign of Nicholas II.
The coins were not declared and were moved across the customs border of the EAEU in violation of customs legislation. Customs examination confirmed that these numismatic items were issued more than 100 years ago and are of cultural value— reports the press service of the Crimean customs.
Currently, the coins have been transferred to a unit of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, which will subsequently determine the custodian for the valuables.
