To date, the water level in the North Crimean Canal remains unchanged.
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, spoke about the work of the North Crimean Canal after the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. According to him, today the water level in the North Crimean Canal remains unchanged.
From the point of view of providing water to Crimea, nothing threatens. The necessary measures are now being taken to minimize losses and preserve the available water reserves in the reservoirs associated with the canal. However, rice farming is under attack — more than 3,000 hectares have been planted. In this regard, it was decided to fully compensate for all costs incurred by the manufacturer. Land reclamation, which requires a much smaller amount of water, more than 60,000 hectares, will continue. Water will be supplied from five reservoirs — they are more than 80% full— said the Head of the Crimea.
Sergei Aksyonov added that for the full functioning of the North Crimean Canal, it is necessary to resolve the issue of ensuring security.
As soon as the necessary measures are taken, we will have the opportunity to install special equipment directly on the Dnieper River, which will supply water with a volume of up to 40 cubic meters per second. These volumes are sufficient for regular operation of the canal and for providing the republic with water. It’s technically easy to do this.— explained the Head of the Republic.
The Crimean authorities are working on this issue together with the federal authorities, and appropriate decisions will be made as soon as circumstances permit.
