The Kerch prosecutor’s office supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against two residents of the Krasnodar region. They were found guilty of committing crimes under the Part. 2, 3 tbsp. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
The court found that two young men became members of a group of scammers through one of the popular social networks. Members of the organized group called citizens, introduced themselves as investigators and misled them by providing false information that their relatives had been involved in traffic accidents and that money had to be paid to compensate for the allegedly caused harm.
The defendants met with the victims, who gave them their savings. Thus, the group members stole more than 1 million rubles from 6 citizens. Illegal actions of convicts were suppressed by internal affairs officers— said the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the defendants to 3 years and 3 years and 6 months in prison. Convicts will serve their sentences in a general regime correctional colony. In addition, the court satisfied the claims of the victims to recover damages caused by the crimes from the convicted persons. The verdict did not enter into legal force.
