Travel agents are the highest paid and sought after professionals in the tourism and hospitality industry

Avito Works experts studied the dynamics of the number of vacancies for job seekers in the tourism and hotel and restaurant business for April 2023 and 2024. According to the data received, experts compiled a ranking of professions with the greatest increase in job offers year on year. Analysts have found that the travel agent profession has become the leader in the increase in vacancies over the past year. It also became the highest paid vacancy in the HoReCa segment.
Employers’ demand for travel agents has increased almost 3 times (+197%) since April 2023, and in April employers offered 40,000-90,000 rubles per month to applicants for this position. The actual income of these specialists usually depends on the results of their work and can be higher, since travel agents often work on a piece-rate wage system.
In second place in the ranking is the profession of a maid. The number of vacancies for them increased 2.3 times over the year. For new employees, the average salary offers were 50,000-90,000 rubles per month.
Kitchen workers took third place in the popularity rating among employers. In April 2024, applicants for this position could count on 40,000-80,000 rubles per month.
In addition to the increased demand for travel agents, maids and kitchen staff, the professions of hostesses and baristas are in high demand among employers. The number of vacancies for the former has almost doubled (+91%), for the latter — by 64% over the year. It is worth noting that the actual earnings of these workers also include tips from visitors.

Employers’ demand for HoReCa specialists has always been high, and on the eve of the summer season the number of vacancies in the tourism and hotel and restaurant business increased by another 36%. This also affected the average salary offers in the segment — new employees were offered an average of 19% more when compared year on year. Surveys of Russian job seekers show that salary is still the determining factor in employment, but by competing for candidates, employers can also offer other bonuses and benefits to job seekers. For example, flexible working conditions, in which 44% of Russians surveyed expressed interest— comments the director of the category “Workers and line professions” of Avito Works Alexander Sampetov.
