Trends in health-improving holidays in Russia last 2023

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The past year 2023 was marked by success for the Russian health resort industry. In accordance with the trends that emerged in the previous two years, it continued to grow, develop and attract the attention of an increasing number of tourists. Among Russians, it seems that a stable trend towards health-improving holidays has formed. Increasingly, our compatriots are choosing a wellness vacation instead of a regular vacation, preferring to spend their vacation not only with pleasure, but also with health benefits. Thus, the total number of tourists who chose to vacation in Russian sanatoriums and boarding houses with treatment in 2023 amounted to almost 7 million people!

The traditions of sanatorium and resort holidays, established and developed well in Soviet times, are gradually being revived and acquiring new modern and progressive features. This is indirectly evidenced by the increased interest in sanatoriums among young people. Traditionally, the largest group of fans of sanatorium-resort holidays are people aged 55 years and older. The second largest group has always been tourists aged 45 to 54 years. And for the first time in many years, they were “overtaken” in demand for sanatorium vouchers by younger people aged 35 to 44 years. Obviously, such a reshuffle in 2nd and 3rd places occurred not only in connection with the general youth trend towards a healthy lifestyle, but also because the modernization of the health resort industry does not go unnoticed by young and middle-aged people; they find a lot of attractive things in sanatoriums, which cease to play the role of exclusively medical and health institutions, expanding the range of services with entertainment, spa, wellness and other areas of service, and turn into multifunctional medical, recreational and entertainment complexes.

Most of all in 2023, Russians vacationed in southern health resorts: in the Krasnodar Territory (Sochi, Anapa, Gelendzhik — leading resorts), in the resort area of Caucasian Mineral Waters (Kislovodsk, Zheleznovodsk, Pyatigorsk, Essentuki) and in Crimea (Yalta, Alushta, Saki ). The undisputed leaders were sanatoriums of the Krasnodar region: They hosted 1.28 million tourists. About 826 thousand people rested and improved their health in Kavminvody, and about 503 thousand tourists in Crimea.

However, the interests of Russians are not limited only to hot resorts. Also, many tourists rested in sanatoriums in the Moscow region, Bashkortostan, Altai Territory, Tatarstan, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen regions and Perm Territory. Russia is a huge country with a large number of resort areas, countless healing riches of nature, and it has something to offer vacationers for recovery in any region and at any time of the year. If in the southern regions the main healing factors are the sun and the sea, then in Altai or Bashkiria, for example, it is mountain air and endless forests.

As for the choice of medical profile of health resorts, most often in 2023 our compatriots went to treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system, gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system. Also, many tourists were interested in the overall health of the body and strengthening the immune system on vacation.

Regarding the cost of sanatorium vouchers, the greatest demand among tourists when booking are health resorts with an average cost of accommodation and treatment of 2-2.5 thousand rubles per day per person. In second place in popularity are accommodation facilities with an average price of 3-3.5 thousand rubles per room, in third place — up to 4 thousand rubles per room per day.
