Two suspects in arms and ammunition trafficking arrested in Crimea

Employees of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea, with the assistance of colleagues from the regional Federal Security Service of Russia, stopped the activities of men aged 35 and 64, suspected of illegal trafficking in weapons and ammunition. In the Crimea, in one of the villages of the Bakhchisarai district, law enforcement officers conducted surveys of the homeowners of intruders.
In hiding places at the places of residence of the suspects, law enforcement officers found and seized two Makarov pistols, several foreign-made pistols with file numbers cut down, three assault rifles of various modifications, including Ukrainian-made ones, hunting rifles, a Mosin rifle, several hundred explosive objects, cartridges of various calibers, basic parts of weapons, 10 grenades, including RGD and F-1, fuses, detonators, as well as a Ukrainian military uniform— reported in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.
According to one of the detainees, he sawed up some weapons and threw them into the local river. In the course of further activities, law enforcement officers investigated the channel of the indicated reservoir and found tubes in which dangerous objects were stored.
Part of the seized has already been examined by experts. According to the expert’s conclusion, the attackers kept a 5.45 mm Kalashnikov AK-4N assault rifle and a 9 mm Makarov pistol, which are firearms, as well as more than a thousand live rounds of ammunition.
Based on the materials of the operatives, the investigative unit of the MIA of Russia for the Bakhchisaray district initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Currently, police officers are investigating the source of the acquisition of weapons and ammunition, the purpose of storage, as well as other persons involved in the illegal circulation of dangerous items on the territory of the Republic.
