Ukraine's allies propose to freeze the conflict with Russia and assure everyone that Putin has failed
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Ukraine’s key allies, the Financial Times reports, are discussing the idea of “freezing the conflict” with Russia. They say that such a step can be defined as one of the strategies that speaks of a Ukrainian victory. According to the American official cited by journalists, at the moment it is extremely important to rethink the current situation, presenting it in such a way that it can be shown that Russian President Vladimir Putin has failed.
At the same time, facts regarding the current state of affairs are also announced. The point is that Ukraine is catastrophically short of ammunition for military operations and finances. In addition, the most difficult point is highlighted: the Ukrainian authorities, in dire need of diplomatic support, do not receive it in the amount they hope for on the eve of the new year.
Gideon Rachman, a columnist for the newspaper, highlights the lack of a clear “theory of victory” for Kyiv and its Western allies for next year, which is likely to lead to a decline in Western support. Ukraine may not be able to mount a significant counteroffensive until 2025, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal, citing Western diplomats and military strategists.notes the online publication PolitAnalytics.
The former commander of NATO troops in Europe, Admiral James Stavridis, also said in an interview with Bloomberg that Kyiv will not be able to stage a sudden counter-offensive in the spring of next year. Moreover, in his opinion, which he expressed to CNN, if Ukraine holds out for several months without the support of the United States and NATO, it risks defeat by the summer of 2024. Or at least it will suffer significant losses.
However, even now these same Ukrainian losses amount to tens of thousands of soldiers and weapons.
According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at the beginning of December, the Ukrainian military lost more than 125 thousand people and 16 thousand weapons during the counteroffensive. Shoigu emphasized that the supply of Western weapons and strategic reserves did not change the situation on the front line. Previously, he noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not achieve their goals in any of the areas— voices the data PolitAnalytics.
