Unlabeled tobacco products worth more than 1.5 million rubles were seized from illicit trafficking in Crimea

Since the beginning of the year, on the domestic market, Crimean customs has identified 11.3 thousand packs of cigarettes that did not have excise stamps and, as required by current legislation, mandatory labeling of tobacco products. Of these, more than 800 packs are foreign-made cigarettes, 10.5 thousand packs of cigarettes are from the EAEU member states, as well as 13.5 kilograms of foreign hookah tobacco. The market value of the seized unmarked products amounted to more than 1.5 million rubles.

Tobacco products were discovered during customs inspections of the premises and territories of retail outlets of individual entrepreneurs engaged in retail and wholesale trade in tobacco products in the Republic of Crimea. All illegally imported tobacco products have been withdrawn from trade. 6 cases of administrative offenses were initiated against individual entrepreneurs,” noted the press service of the Crimean Customs.

Crimean customs draws the attention of citizens and individual entrepreneurs to the fact that mandatory labeling of tobacco products on the territory of the Russian Federation has been introduced since July 2020. From 12/01/2023, in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 30, 2022 No. 2178 “On amendments to certain acts of the Government of the Russian Federation regarding the introduction of mandatory labeling of certain types of nicotine-containing liquids by means of identification,” retail circulation of unlabeled nicotine-containing products is prohibited.

For the absence of mandatory labeling, administrative liability is provided under Part 4 of Article 15.12. Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and criminal liability under Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation
