Vera Nikolaevna Arzamastseva, a veteran of the Battle of Prokhorov, was awarded a jubilee medal in Feodosia

In 2023, our country is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Kursk, which became one of the most important stages on the way to victory over the Nazi invaders. On July 12, 1943, one of the largest tank battles took place near the Prokhorovka station on the southern face of the Kursk salient. A resident of Feodosia, Vera Filimonova (married Arzamastsev) took a direct part in it (she served as a radio operator, providing communication between the troops).

Vera Nikolaevna was born on September 23, 1925 in the city of Verkhne-Uralsk, Chelyabinsk Region. Without graduating from high school, she entered the chemical department of the Magnitogorsk Industrial College, but only finished 1 course. The war has begun. Once, having seen an advertisement in the newspaper about the recruitment of girls to military schools, she went to the military registration and enlistment office and on May 5, 1942, she was enrolled in the Kuibyshev Radio Engineering School of Communications.

Having received the specialty «radio operator», in November 1942 she was sent to the Stalingrad Front in the 24th motorized rifle brigade of the 24th tank corps. Here it must be added that once, when restoring lost documents, the year of birth of Vera Nikolaevna, like her sister, was set to 1923. So by the time she was sent to the front, Vera Nikolaevna, according to her passport, was already 18 years old.

She participated in hostilities against the army of Paulus, and after reforming in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, she fought as part of the 2nd Guards Tank Tatsinsky Corps. The battles near Kursk, in Smolensk, the liberation of Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic States, the battle in East Prussia and, finally, July 1945 — demobilization.

Several times during the war, Vera Nikolaevna was wounded and shell-shocked.

She was awarded the medal «For Courage», the Order of the Patriotic War, I degree, and many other awards.

Today, on the Day of Russia, the anniversary medal «In memory of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Prokhorov on July 12, 1943», established by the Belgorod Region, was presented to the veteran by representatives of the authorities of Feodosia. They thanked Vera Nikolaevna for her personal contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, courage and heroism, and wished her health, prosperity, long life, love and care of her family and friends.
