VTsIOM: 86% of Russians surveyed positively assess the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation

CrimeaPRESS reports:

About 86% of Russians assess the reunification of Crimea with Russia, which took place in 2014, as a positive and correct decision, 77% assess the role of the republic and Sevastopol as key in ensuring Russia’s defense capability, according to a study by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM).

Russia celebrates the 10th anniversary of reunification with Crimea and Sevastopol. In the minds of Russians, this event can rightfully be called the country’s most significant achievement over the past 10-15 years. The results of a new wave of the VTsIOM monitoring survey showed: during the entire observation period (since 2019), Russians positively assess the annexation of Crimea to Russia (81-93%), during the last measurement, 86% said this with varying degrees of confidence.,” follows from a survey published on website VTsIOM.

About 57% of Russians talk about the pride that the historical event evokes in them; since 2018, at least half of their fellow citizens have expressed a similar opinion — from 48% and above.

Only 2% of the total number of respondents speak about negative emotions in connection with the return of the peninsula to the Russian Federation.

Since 2014, Russians have not left the feeling that the decision to accept Crimea into the Russian Federation was correct (86%), the maximum number of supporters of this point of view occurred in 2014 — the share of those convinced of the correctness of the decision reached a record 96%. Among the main arguments were the restoration of historical justice, the large number of Russian population on the peninsula, and an independently made decision during the referendum.

Despite economic difficulties, Russians remain true to their convictions — the entry of the peninsula into the Russian Federation has brought more benefits to our country (73%). Approximately the same number of respondents recognize the key role of Crimea and Sevastopol in ensuring Russia’s defense capability (77%). Also, during the March survey, the absolute majority of our fellow citizens said that by reunifying with Crimea, Russia proved its readiness to defend its national interests (85%),” notes the VTsIOM study.

In addition, according to 74% of respondents, Crimea began to develop more successfully after joining Russia (2019 — 73%, 2023 — 76%).
