Vyacheslav Volodin on the death penalty: no referendums are needed, the decision of the Constitutional Court is enough
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin spoke on the issue of lifting the moratorium on the death penalty in Russia. According to him, this topic should be the subject of consideration by the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation
In our Constitution and criminal legislation, no one has abolished the death penalty. There is a decision of the Constitutional Court, which postponed the pronouncement of such a verdict. Therefore, there is no need for any referendums — a decision on this issue by the Constitutional Court is enoughsaid the Chairman of the State Duma at the plenary meeting.

At the same time, Vyacheslav Volodin recalled that Russia withdrew from the Council of Europe, therefore the corresponding international obligations do not apply to our country.
Earlier, the chairman of the relevant Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation, Pavel Krasheninnikov, also noted that “there is a moratorium by the Constitutional Court, there is a moratorium by the President«
The head of the United Russia faction, Vladimir Vasiliev, in turn, said that the topic of introducing the death penalty for terrorism in the Russian Federation will be deeply and meaningfully studied, and the decision “will meet the moods and expectations of our society«
