Wanted Crimean Sentenced in Absentia to 10 Years in Prison for Murder
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The murderer committed the crime almost a quarter of a century ago.
The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was deemed sufficient by the court to convict the resident of the Saksky District. The Crimean was found guilty of committing murder (Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The Investigative Department for the Bakhchisaray District and the court established that on the evening of July 23, 1999, a group of tourists met a 32-year-old hunter on the plateau of Mount Ai-Petri, and they all made a stop for the night. After drinking alcohol, the man, left alone with the 24-year-old tourist, fired a shotgun into his chest during a conflict. The victim died on the spot from his wounds. The defendant fled the scene of the crime.
Investigators, together with their colleagues from the police, organized work to study the circumstances of the murder that took place 24 years ago, during which the identity of the perpetrator was established and irrefutable evidence of his guilt in committing a particularly serious crime was obtained.— the Investigative Committee reported.
The suspect is hiding from preliminary investigation authorities in the territory of another state, and as a result, he has been placed on the international and federal wanted list.
Today, the court found him guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 10 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.
