Water level in reservoirs in Crimea has dropped. Due to heat
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On June 11, the State Committee of the Republic of Crimea for Water Management and Land Reclamation (Goskomvodkhoz) reported TASSthat the reserves in the reservoirs will allow the region’s population to be provided with drinking water for more than one year.
The total water reserves in reservoirs located in the main river beds by the beginning of August amounted to 141.93 million cubic meters, which is 15.92 million cubic meters less than a month ago.— the message says.
It is noted that in July, tropical air masses prevailed in Crimea, so very dry and hot weather was observed. In some places, daytime air temperatures reached 40 degrees, and the average air temperature was higher than the long-term norm.
The precipitation was short-term, exclusively local and extremely unevenly distributed across the territory. Thus, in the river basins of the northern foothills, 4-30% of the norm fell, in the river basins of the southern coast of Crimea 41-54%, and in the mountains of Crimea from 79% to 115% of the norm. It is noted that due to the long absence of runoff-forming precipitation on the Crimean rivers, the summer low water set in early, the Alma River, above the Partizanskoye reservoir, dried up. The reserves of karst waters were significantly depleted, and a gradual decrease in water levels occurred over the course of a month.
