What is VARMSU and why is it called a support for the development of Russian municipalities

Crimeans took part in the work of the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government on the VEB.RF platform as part of an open dialogue. Experts discussed the development of municipalities and highlighted the directions on the basis of which the community of local governments will develop in 2025.

The role of local government bodies in the unified system of public power of the country has been repeatedly emphasized by our President. It is important to understand that the municipal level of government is the closest to the people, because every day we are faced with the need to resolve issues in a variety of areas. And the quality of life of every resident depends on how quickly and efficiently issues are resolved locally.,” emphasized Evgeniy Grachev, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Domestic Policy.

Roman Shantaev, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Committee on State Building and Local Self-Government, took part in the meeting of the working group.

He made proposals from the Republic of Crimea to improve the provisions of the bill, and also thanked his colleagues for the fact that all our previously directed initiatives were reflected in the document. The law is very important, as it provides for new approaches to the functioning and interaction of local governments,” Shantaev noted.

During the discussion, experts presented successful practices of local self-government, research results on the role of authorities in the decision-making system at the municipal level, as well as new approaches to training municipal employees.

People-centricity and Service are the main trends on today’s municipal agenda,” said Co-Chairman of the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government, member of the Presidium of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the Development of Local Self-Government Irina Guseva.

In June of this year, the status of the All-Russian Association for the Development of Local Self-Government (VARMSU) was officially confirmed as a structure that protects the interests of local governments.
