What will Erdogan offer Putin. Today in Sochi — a meeting of the presidents of Russia and Turkey

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in talks with Vladimir Putin will declare his readiness to act as a mediator to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This is reported by the Turkish edition Milliyet citing their sources. The leaders of the two countries will meet today, September 4, in Sochi.

According to the publication, the Turkish President will say that “the consequences of the war have grown exponentially«, and underline «the importance of establishing lasting peace and stability in the region«. He will say that «ready to take on the role of mediator and provide all kinds of support, including direct negotiations, to ensure a lasting peace» between the parties.

Another important topic of the meeting will be the resumption of the «grain deal», which Ankara not only supports, but is actively promoting on all world platforms. The same Erdogan repeatedly emphasized that, in his opinion, it was thanks to the grain from Ukraine that it was possible to keep world prices for agricultural products, as well as “prevent world hunger«.

For their part, representatives of the Russian Federation have repeatedly stated that they are ready to immediately return to the grain deal, as soon as all the wishes of Moscow are fulfilled. The day before, Turkish media reported that the UN, in cooperation with Ankara, had developed a new package of proposals for Moscow. According to the information leaked to the press, they are in «inclusion of the European subsidiary of the Russian Agricultural Bank in the SWIFT system”, as well as in unfreezing the assets of Russian fertilizer firms in Europe. In addition, the UN proposes to start work on assessing the damage of the damaged Togliatti-Odessa pipeline, through which Russian ammonia was transported. The resumption of the operation of the ammonia pipeline was also one of the conditions of the Russian Federation for the implementation of the Istanbul agreements, however, in July 2023, the pipeline was blown up. According to the leaks, the UN is also ready to take some step to solve the problem of insuring Russian ships carrying food.
