What will the climate on the planet be like in a hundred years? Opinion: Professor Irina Repina at a lecture of the Knowledge.Science track in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On September 29, students, graduate students and young scientists of Sevastopol became listeners of the Knowledge.Science track. Climate change is a complex topic that, without exaggeration, concerns every inhabitant of the Earth, because air temperature, amount of precipitation and sunny days determine not only the efficiency of agriculture, but also the comfort of life. Speaking in Sevastopol, the head of the laboratory of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics named after. A. M. Obukhov RAS, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Irina Repina explained what tasks climate researchers set for themselves, how weather forecasts are created and how global warming affects agricultural activities. Irina Repina listed the technologies that scientists use to monitor climate processes. The speaker also introduced listeners to the nature of climate change and noted that today this process is influenced by both natural causes and anthropogenic factors.
According to paleodata, alternating warm and cold eras have been observed on our planet since its inception. The Earth experienced both periods of complete glaciation and periods of complete absence of ice covers. It is during such a relatively warm period that our civilization develops. But modern warming is happening faster than at any time in the history of paleo-reconstructions. This leads to the fact that the climate system does not have time to adapt to changes — and the number of natural disasters increases. Climate scientists predict that warming will continue at current levels of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. How will it interact with the natural cooling that is yet to occur? There is no answer to this question yet. But even according to the most optimistic scenarios, the average air temperature on our planet will continue to rise in the next hundred years— said Irina Repina.
Knowledge. Science is holding a series of presentations by Russian scientists on the main discoveries and current ideas of modern science. Lecturers tell participants about space, the secrets of human consciousness and the body, scientific discoveries and innovative IT startups. Each speaker is a professional in his field who is happy to share his knowledge with the audience. Participants learn about the main topics and current trends in modern science, ask questions to lecturers, and work together to understand complex scientific concepts. A separate block of each lecture will be devoted to the priority tasks of the Decade of Science and Technology, which Russian President Vladimir Putin established in the country by decree for the period from 2022 to 2031. Students will be told what opportunities this opens up for them for professional growth in the scientific field, about new domestic developments and industry research.
