When relaxing at sea, swimming on the waves, do not forget about safety. «KRYM-SPAS» reminds
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Yesterday afternoon, the Yevpatoria emergency rescue team «KRYM-SPAS» noticed a SUP boarder about 1 km from the shore while patrolling the water area. Rescuers in a motorboat immediately approached and asked if he needed help.
It turned out that the man had overestimated his strength and, due to the gusty wind, it was difficult for him to return back on his own. The employees of the State Institution of the Republic of Crimea «KRYM-SPAS» delivered the tourist to the shore and held a preventive conversation with him about the rules for safe exit to the sea on a watercraft.— the emergency department said.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Crimea recommends that citizens study the safety rules when going out to sea on a SUP board:
— you shouldn’t neglect the “leash”. This is a thin leash that is attached to the board at one end and to the rider’s leg at the other. If you fall, it will prevent the board from floating away, and will allow you to quickly pull it towards you and get out of the water.
— Do not neglect the life jacket. It will allow you to stay afloat even if you fall off the SUP board. Also, life jackets are usually brightly colored, which makes the rider more visible to fellow enthusiasts and boat captains.
— Check the serviceability of the SUP board before each time you go out on the water. If it is inflatable, you need to check for damage. When immersed in water, they will reveal themselves as characteristic air bubbles. You cannot use a damaged SUP board.
— When walking on a SUP board, you should take into account the wind and current. They can significantly complicate movement on the water. It is especially dangerous when they carry you away from the shore.
— It is necessary to be extremely careful in places where small vessels regularly pass. Particularly dangerous are areas of water adjacent to piers, small vessel mooring bases, and yacht clubs. It can be difficult for a small vessel driver to notice a SUP rider due to his small size, as well as glare on the water, and to react in time to avoid a collision.
