Who would have thought: it turns out that most Russians are waiting for the introduction of digital passports

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The idea of having digital documents is supported by 92% of Russians surveyed, analysts from the financial marketplace Vyberu.ru found out. For the study, experts surveyed 3 thousand service users aged from 21 to 55 years. At the same time, 29% of respondents noted that they would actively use digitized documents when visiting clinics and purchasing equipment on credit. Another 40% believe that providing a paper version of a passport is easier, and digital documents are a good alternative in case of loss of a paper passport.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a “digital passport.” The submission of information using the mobile application is voluntary, the document emphasizes. At the same time, identity documents retain their status even if there are digital copies of them, the Ministry of Digital Development reminded.

Even those to whom the introduction of a digital passport today seems like something superfluous will change their opinion over time, says Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications:

First of all, the presence of digital documents is about comfort and improving the quality of life. Today, the pace of life is accelerating for everyone, digitalization is penetrating all spheres of life, people have not even taken their wallets with them for a long time, while in order to solve many everyday issues we still have to carry a rather voluminous paper document with us. It’s even a little illogical. As far as I understand, many people have questions about the security of digital passport data, but there is no need to doubt it — given all the risks associated with data leaks today, the state will pay special attention to this issue and will not make mistakes. And in general, the risks of losing a paper passport if you have a digital version will be greatly reduced, which is also important.

At the same time, it is worth remembering that everyone will be able to continue to use paper documents, the deputy emphasized.

At first, digital documents will indeed be more popular in everyday matters, but over time, I am sure their functionality will expand, and in a few years the use of a digital passport will be as popular as the use of non-cash moneysays Anton Nemkin.
