With the assistance of KFU, the first speleo-tourist complex will open in the Chechen Republic
CrimeaPRESS reports:
With the assistance of scientists from the Crimean Federal University, the Bukkuzi speleo-tourist complex will be opened for the first time in the North Caucasus in the Chechen Republic. Specialists from the Crimean Federal University act as mentors in the opening and preparation of a tourist facility for operation.
The methodology for preparing such an object was worked out by Crimean scientists in the Scientific Speleo-Palaeontological Complex “Tavrida Cave”, opened at KFU as part of the “Priority 2030” strategic academic leadership program. It will be used as a basis for implementation on the territory of the Chechen Republic. The first studies of the karst region where the complex will be located were started by scientists from the Crimean Federal University together with specialists from the Chechen State University named after A. A. Kadyrov and the Ministry of Tourism of the Chechen Republic seven years ago.
Thanks to our efforts, the territory of the future complex has the documented status of a specially protected environmental area. Permission has already been received for research work to create a tourist trail and documents have been collected to obtain a license for the use of subsoil without exploration of mineral deposits. Without these stages, the opening of a speleo-tourist complex is impossible“, said Gennady Samokhin, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology and Tourism of the Crimean Federal University.
The opening of the new speleo-tourist complex “Bukkuzi” is planned by the end of the year. It will be located in the area of the Sharo-Argun River at an altitude of about 800 meters above sea level. Previously, the place was virtually inaccessible. Now a road has already been laid to the future complex and a suspension bridge has been built so that tourists can safely cross the stormy mountain river.
The length of the excursion route will be approximately one kilometer. On its territory there is a cave where several powerful hydrogen sulfide springs with high mineralization flow out of the limestone massif. This means that the prerequisites arise for the formation of a very rare formation of caves in the world. Since this is a hydrogen sulfide source, sulfuric acid is formed, which dissolves limestone well, but at the same time the deposition of secondary crystalline minerals — gypsum and sulfur — occurs. This combination also gives rise to a unique biocenosis of bacteria that feed exclusively on hydrogen sulfide. As an example, such life is recorded on the bottom of the World Ocean, which lies at four-kilometer depths. In addition, a medical report is being prepared to use water from the hydrogen sulfide source to treat skin and joint diseasesnotes Gennady Samokhin.
The specialist added that the decision to create such an excursion speleo-tourist site in the valley of the Sharo-Argun River was made in order to show people these unique phenomena. In addition, according to him, another whole cluster of caves can be discovered in this territory. One of them, a cave called “Sheki-Khyekh”, will soon become an excursion site if all environmental measures are observed.
