Today, World Breastfeeding Week is being held in more than countries around the world. Its aim is to educate women about the health benefits of breastfeeding.
Experts say that the health of the child is laid in the first 1000 days from the moment of conception — within 9 months of intrauterine life and 2.5 years extrauterine. A special role in this important process is played by proper nutrition. Breastfeeding is the best way to provide newborn babies with the nutrients they need, as well as to strengthen the baby’s immune system.
Parents are responsible for the health of the child. How well they organize his nutrition affects the formation of health. The baby must be adequately fed, in accordance with age-related needs. This means that a child under 6 months of age should receive exclusively breast milk from the mother. Up to a year — continue to receive breast milk and additional special foods (complementary foods). From one to three years — products containing the ingredients necessary for development , — comments the President of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, the chief freelance pediatric specialist in preventive medicine of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leila Seymurovna Namazova- Baranova.
The nutrition of the youngest mother is also of great importance. The food and drinks that a woman consumes while breastfeeding largely determine the smell, taste and composition of breast milk. Substances that are harmful to the baby, contained in alcohol, tobacco, drugs, some herbs, and even caffeine from coffee and tea, pass into breast milk if the mother used them. In addition, breastfeeding increases a breastfeeding woman’s need for energy and most nutrients, so it is important for new mothers to eat a healthy and varied diet.
