Yalta honors memory of border guards killed in Afghanistan

On July 13, 1993 and August 18, 1994, at the 12th border outpost of the 117th border detachment, stationed on the Tajik-Afghan border, 32 border guards, our compatriots, heroically died.
In their memory, a memorial service was held in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which was conducted by the Dean of the Yalta Church District, Honorary Citizen of the city of Yalta, Archpriest Adam Dmitrenko, the rector of the Church of St. Nina in the urban-type settlement of Gaspra, Archpriest Konstantin Dmitrenko, and the clergy of the cathedral.
The memorial service was attended by members of the Crimean regional branch of the All-Russian public organization “Association of Law Enforcement Officers and Special Services of the Russian Federation”, veteran border guards and parishioners of the cathedral.
At the end of the memorial service, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Public Organization of Border Guard Veterans, Colonel Alexander Kovalenko, spoke in detail about the heroic days of the border guards’ battles on July 13, 1993 and August 18, 1994, and named the dead. Thanks to their courage, bravery and faith in the Fatherland, the border guards did not surrender their combat positions and did not allow the enemy to cross the border. For their courage and heroism in the performance of their military duty, six border guards were awarded the title of «Hero of Russia», 29 people were awarded medals «For Personal Courage», and 17 people were awarded medals «For Bravery». At the end of the event, the participants in the memorial service laid flowers at the mosaic image of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, located on the facade of the cathedral.
