Yalta is a participant in the international action «Fiery Picture of War»

The “Fiery Picture of War” action is being held for the third time and reminds of the great feat of the victorious people. So, on June 21, in the courtyard of the Yalta Gaspri school No. 1, 2,000 candles were lit by Victory Volunteers, students of school No. 1, activists of the Yalta local branch of United Russia. In memory of that terrible war, they created a model of a combat aircraft twice Hero of the Soviet Union, a native of the city of Alupka, Amet-Khan Sultan.
The legendary pilot was born on October 20, 1920 in the city of Alupka. During the Great Patriotic War, he was one of the ten best Soviet fighter pilots. The hero made 603 sorties. He personally shot down 30 enemy aircraft and 19 — as part of a group. After the war, Amet-Khan Sultan became a test pilot. However, the fate of the hero was unfortunate, and on February 1, 1971, he died during a test flight. In Alupka there is a museum of the twice Hero of the Soviet Union Amet-Khan Sultan, a street is named after him, one of the schools was named after him— notes the Head of the Municipal Formation of the Yalta City District — Chairman of the Yalta City Council Konstantin Shimanovsky.
