As noted at the event, the school joined the project of the All-Russian Popular Front «The name of the Hero to the school», in which educational institutions across the country receive the names of their fellow countrymen. The students carried out research work and came up with a proposal to name the educational institution after Ivan Meshcheryakov, a “machine-gun ace,” as war correspondents once wrote about him. The educational institution became the sixth in the city, honored to bear the name of the hero of the Great Patriotic War.

The honorary right to open the memorial plaque was given to Ivan Meshcheryakov’s daughter Elena Alekseeva and her husband Vladimir Alekseev.
