Young Crimeans are introduced to the traditions of Maslenitsa

Republican cultural institutions have prepared an extensive interactive cultural and educational program of events for schoolchildren and kindergarten students, introducing the traditions of Maslenitsa.
Maslenitsa theatrical performances began at the Crimean Ethnographic Museum, organized jointly with students of the Crimean University of Arts and Tourism. The festive event includes a fascinating tour of the exhibition “Russian Samovar. Tea drinking traditions» and a fun game form of getting to know the traditions and customs of Maslenitsa week with the participation of buffoon actors. Maslenitsa week at the museum will last until March 17.
In the Museum-Estate of A.N. Beketov hosted a holiday “Like Oil Week,” during which the children got acquainted with the customs and history of the folk and Orthodox holiday. The guests took part in the folk round dances “Like on Butter Week”, “Oh pancakes, my pancakes…”, various competitions and entertaining games.
For the families of participants in the special military operation and large families, the Crimean Republican Library for youth organized a charity event “Maslenitsa Revelry”. Guests of the library took part in games and entertainment from the youth theater “Modus operandi”, whose artists held cheerful folk festivals with songs, dances and a real Russian round dance. The event continued with tea and pancakes. Representatives of the All-Russian civil-patriotic project “Children-Heroes” took an active part in the action, who provided the children with gifts and held a patriotic conversation. In conclusion, the library staff recommended thematic historical and cultural publications.
In the department “Dacha A.P. Chekhov and O.L. Knipper in Gurzuf» of the Crimean Literary and Art Memorial Museum-Reserve on March 16, a cultural and educational event will be held — a lecture-presentation «Maslenitsa in the works of Chekhov.»
Maslenitsa is a holiday of farewell to winter, the eighth week before Easter. Maslenitsa took place before Lent, during the cheese-free week of the Orthodox calendar, and ended with Forgiveness Sunday. In traditional Russian life, this week has become the brightest holiday filled with the joy of life. The Maslenitsa holiday is a whole week of festivities, fun and large feasts before the start of Lent. Each day of this holiday week has its own meaning, and even its own name.
