Zaporozhye and Kherson branches of the Russian Geographical Society were opened at KFU

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The constituent meeting of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regional branches of the Russian Geographical Society was held at the Crimean Federal University. As part of the event, elections of chairmen and governing bodies of branches were held, as well as the ceremonial presentation of the first membership cards to residents of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.

I would like to thank the Crimean Federal University and its rector Vladimir Kuryanov, the Crimean Republican Branch of the Russian Geographical Society for their assistance in organizing such an important event. It will go down in history. The oldest archives in Russia are located in St. Petersburg — at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society. Thanks to the Crimean Federal University, all this will remain in memory for future generations. The opening of new branches of the oldest society is extremely rare— the press service of the university quotes Nikolai Vershigora, adviser to the Department of Regional Development of the Executive Directorate of the Russian Geographical Society.

The dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Kherson State Pedagogical University, Vladimir Maleev, was elected chairman of the Kherson branch of the Russian Geographical Society. Andrey Boyka, Deputy Minister for Sports of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Zaporozhye Region, became the Chairman of the Zaporozhye branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

During the period of integration of the Zaporozhye region into the legal field of the Russian Federation, cooperation with public all-Russian organizations is very important. It is a great honor for the Zaporozhye region to become part of the oldest respected scientific organization, – notes Andrey Boyka.

As part of the ceremonial part of the event, the Director of the Department of Regional Development of the Executive Directorate of the Russian Geographical Society, Dmitry Tsapenko, presented a letter of gratitude for his personal contribution to the work on popularizing geography to the acting rector of the Crimean Federal University, Vladimir Kuryanov, signed by the first vice-president of the Russian Geographical Society, Artur Chilingarov.

After the ceremonial part, a strategic session was held for new branches of the Russian Geographical Society, where they learned about the work of regional branches of the Russian Geographical Society, main events, financial support measures and other aspects of the work. In addition, guests of the Crimean Federal University visited the Tavrida cave on an excursion.
