A former Crimean lawyer will answer in court for fraud. In the dock — and his accomplice

A former lawyer at the Bar Association of the Republic of Crimea and his accomplice will appear in court on charges of committing fraud on an especially large scale.

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol has completed an investigation into a criminal case against a former lawyer of the Bar Association of the Republic of Crimea and his friend. They are accused of fraud by a group of persons by prior conspiracy on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)— reported in Sledkom.

An investigator from the Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases established that in January 2022, a married couple from the Dzhankoy district turned to the then-current lawyer for legal assistance. The lawyer and his friend, having developed a plan, told their clients false information: supposedly after the man appeared before the investigator, he would be detained and taken into custody. The citizen was asked to issue a sick leave certificate for 38 thousand rubles and hide from the investigation until the situation is resolved.

Subsequently, the accomplices received from the spouses and their relatives more than 1.8 million rubles, which, according to the lawyer and his friend, will be used to stop the criminal prosecution, searches, operational search activities and search for the suspect, registration of disability for the person involved in the case, changing the classification of criminals actions. At the same time, the accomplices did not plan to fulfill their obligations; they could not influence the circumstances of the case.

The criminal actions of the lawyer and his friend were stopped by officers of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. Under the weight of the evidence presented, both detainees admitted their guilt in full.

The criminal investigation has now been completed. The materials were sent to the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of studying, approving the indictment and sending the case to court for consideration on the meritsnoted the Investigative Committee.
