CrimeaPRESS reports:
On the Day of Remembrance of Russian soldiers who fell during the Crimean War of 1853-1856, the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, Vladimir Konstantinov, honored the memory of the soldiers buried on the territory of the Military Historical Memorial “Field of the Alma Battle”.
In September 1854, one of the largest battles of the entire period of the Crimean War took place here. About 100 thousand people took part in it. The soldiers and officers of the Vladimir Infantry Regiment showed particular courage and heroism in the Battle of Alma. In gratitude, Emperor Alexander II allocated funds for the installation of a monument to the soldiers of this formation. The monument was opened in 1902.
Unfortunately, it has not survived to this day. However, it is possible to recreate the sculpture. We will look into this issue, and by next fall, using charitable funds, the monument will be returned to its original, historical appearance.said Vladimir Konstantinov.
