A museum of the artist Konstantin Korovin opened in Gurzuf
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The museum of the artist Konstantin Korovin opened in the Salambo villa, built by the artist himself, where in Soviet times and the Ukrainian years the House of Creativity, which bore the name of its former owner, was located. Several years ago, the complex of buildings was leased to the Zhigunov family.
On behalf of the Minister of Culture of Crimea Tatyana Manezhina, First Deputy Minister Olga Burova delivered a welcoming speech, noting that the new museum will become a point of attraction for the cultural community, a platform for the implementation of interesting projects in many areas. She also expressed gratitude to Sergei and Victoria Zhigunov, their exceptional determination and love of art, who, with grant support from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, managed to bring this wonderful project to life.
Konstantin Korovin is a significant person for Gurzuf, very significant for the village, and I sincerely thank the Zhigunovs, who in our difficult times devote so much attention, effort and money to culture. I also thank Marina Nikolaevna Zabrodskaya, who has been popularizing the artist’s work in Gurzuf and beyond for a long time. This is not just a museum, but a real cultural center where creative people — musicians and filmmakers — will gather. And Yalta will again become the cultural capital of Russia, as it was before, — said the head of the Yalta administration, Yanina Pavlenko. She also especially noted that the museum will operate free of charge for residents of Gurzuf.
In turn, film director, producer, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Sergei Zhigunov noted that over the course of a year and a half, many people helped in creating the museum.
First of all, I would like to thank Sergei Valerievich Aksenov, Deputy Prime Minister Anna Vladimirovna Anyukhina, the Government of Crimea, — he said and expressed gratitude to the Presidential Grants Fund, local enthusiasts who helped clean up and remove garbage, plant plants on the territory, and paint the walls.
The tour of the museum was personally conducted by Victoria Zhigunova, who spoke in detail about the creation of the museum, the help of employees of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, collectors, and also about some of the features of the new museum. In particular, the collection contains sketches of a theatrical costume by Konstantin Korovin, a painting bought at auction by Sergei Zhigunov, painted by his son. Real exhibits are complemented by virtual ones, for example, in the first hall the artist himself talks about his childhood in the voice of Sergei Zhigunov, in another one you can hear the booming bass of Korovin’s friend Fyodor Chaliapin and there is a piano — exactly the same one he played. The exhibition also includes stands dedicated to the history of the Villa Salambo itself, as well as its famous guests — Repin, Surikov, Gorky, Kuprin and many others.
So far we have only 4 rooms, but our plans are to expand the exhibition and, most importantly, to fully breathe creativity and art into this place, as it was under Konstantin Korovin himself“, concluded Victoria Zhigunova.
You can visit the museum any day except Monday from 10:00 to 19:00. The address of the museum is the village. Gurzuf, st. Chekhova, 1.
