A piece of the Eternal Flame was transferred from the pedestal of the sculptural composition “Soldier and Sailor” to the Defense Museum

In Sevastopol, a ceremony was held to transfer the Eternal Flame from the pedestal of the sculptural composition “Soldier and Sailor” to the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol. The monument is currently in the process of restoration. During the work, the pedestal, figures of a soldier and a sailor, interior spaces, the sculptural composition “Eternal Flame”, an observation deck, and a fence will be restored.

We need to completely dismantle the lining of the pedestal on which the Eternal Flame is installed, sort through the granite star, dismantle and restore the bronze wreath, because we noticed that in some places it was supplemented with concrete and other metals. All this will be cleared and filled with bronze along the matrix, and then installed on a granite star. The granite cladding will also be completely recreated. This is a symbol of the fact that every Sevastopol resident and guest of our city remembers the feat of those people who forged the Great Victory, and honors the glorious history of our city, which is not for nothing called the city of two defenses. Eternal flames symbolize courage, loyalty to one’s choice, duty, love for the Fatherland and the memory of those people who fought for you and me to live under a peaceful sky. This piece of the Eternal Flame will be kept in our museum until restoration work is completed. The Eternal Flame was lit here on May 8, 2007, this is the fourth Eternal Flame in Sevastopol.
