Additional elections for a State Duma deputy were held in the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Crimea

On the days of the by-elections of a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation in the single-mandate electoral district of the Republic of Crimea — Simferopol single-mandate electoral district No. 19, citizens detained in the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the region, as well as those registered with the criminal-executive inspection, were able to exercise their voting rights.
Those sentenced to punishment without isolation from society, as well as suspects and accused in respect of whom a preventive measure in the form of house arrest took part in the voting.
To implement the electoral rights of citizens, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and subordinate institutions carried out work on the preparation and conduct of elections: a working group was created, interaction was organized with territorial election commissions and law enforcement agencies, explanatory work was carried out with those sentenced to punishment without isolation from companies and accountable persons.
During the voting, employees of the criminal-executive inspection, together with members of territorial election commissions and representatives of public organizations of the republic, visited the places of residence of suspects and accused persons under house arrest. Those sentenced to punishment without isolation from society were able to independently visit polling stations, where they expressed their will. In addition, they were given the opportunity to participate in the elections through remote electronic voting.
There were no violations of electoral rights in the region’s Federal Penitentiary Service during the elections.
