An 18-year-old telephone scam courier who robbed two pensioners was detained in Simferopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Simferopol, the district department of the city police received a message from a local resident that his 86-year-old mother had suffered from the actions of telephone scammers. He said that the woman received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that her grandson was in the hospital and money was needed for his treatment. After which a courier arrived at the pensioner’s home, to whom she gave 130 thousand rubles.

Later, police department No. 3 “Central” received a message from a 91-year-old local resident, who said that an unknown person called the city phone and introduced himself as her acquaintance. The man said that he had been in an accident and needed money. The woman gave 100 thousand rubles and 1,600 dollars to the courier who arrived at her home.

Police officers established that the same young man came to the victims for money — an 18-year-old resident of the Bakhchisaray district, who was detained by criminal investigation officers during operational search activities.

The guy, wanting to earn extra money, agreed to take part in a criminal scheme, the advertisement of which he found on one of the social networks. After which, in a popular messenger, he received addresses to which he went and collected funds. The young man transferred the stolen money of pensioners to the account of the so-called curator, and set aside 10% of the amount for himself as earnings— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

Investigators from OP No. 1 “Zheleznodorozhny” and OP No. 3 “Tsentralny” initiated criminal cases based on crimes under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud). The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Currently, the suspect has been chosen as a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. Police officers are establishing additional episodes of criminal activity of the detainee.
