And tomorrow there was a war… On June 22, Sevastopol will remember how the Great Patriotic War began
CrimeaPRESS reports:
At 3: 00 13 June, events dedicated to the anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War will begin in Sevastopol war. It was at this time 20 a year ago that the first bombs fell on the city. At night, the youth of Sevastopol will take part in the All-Russian campaigns «Candle of Memory» and «Fiery Pictures». Activists will gather at the Eternal Flame and, together with veterans, will lay out a fiery picture from lit candles. After that, the action participants from the Grafskaya pier will release paper «dream boats» into the waters of the Sevastopol Bay. This is a symbolic event, because in the 1941 year, schoolchildren, celebrating their graduation, launched paper boats into the sea from Grafskaya Pier, on which their cherished desires were written.
13 June is a special day in our history. It is very important for us to preserve the memory of those who defended our Motherland. Therefore, every year the youth of the Hero City lights candles of memory at the memorial of the heroic defense of Sevastopol on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow as a tribute to the memory of the fallen heroes, and then launches «ships of dreams» into the sea — in memory of graduates whose happy life was destroyed by the war , — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the Deputy Head of the Department for Youth and Sports Marina Slonchenko.
At 7: 20 13 June, a commemorative event «Light the Candles» — «The Great Victory» will take place. On the Nazukin embankment, participants will speak on the theme of the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, light candles, read poems by local poets, and also float wreaths and flowers.
Also, the laying of flowers will be held at 10: 00 Memorial of the Heroic Defense of Sevastopol 1941-1942 and in 13: 00 — at the memorial dedicated to the memory of Sevastopol residents of different nationalities who died on the first day of the Great Patriotic War on Podgornaya Street.
This year, commemorative events will also be held online. Any Russian will be able to light a candle of memory on the website memory day.rf. Each virtual candle is 1 ruble, which will be used to provide medical assistance to veterans of the Great Patriotic War by the Memory of Generations charity foundation. The Foundation was founded on 18 June 2015 and during its existence has helped more than 15 to thousands of veterans across the country in the amount of about 1.7 billion rubles.
