April 29 — Arina the nursery and at the same time Naviy day

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The name of the day speaks for itself — on Arina the nursery, our ancestors paid special attention to vegetable gardens and orchards. They planted vegetables (cabbage and cucumbers) and whitewashed trees, in particular.

And by April 29, the rivers were overflowing and they were returning to the right channel. True, after their “riot” they left washed out banks and washed away bridges. That is why this day was also popularly called “Irina — snatch the shores.”

The church today honors the memory of the martyr Irina. She led a righteous life, preached faith in Christ, for which she was tortured to death along with her sisters.

As for the weather, it was believed that after April 29, warm and sunny days would finally set in. The signs are:

  • The alder has bloomed — you can sow buckwheat.
  • The hazel tree is “on fire” — it’s time to plant the forest.
  • The ravines “play” and then freeze – there will be a lot of interference with the harvest.

Name days are celebrated today: Timofey, Leonid, Mikhail, Pavel, Nika, Galina, Irina.

And the Slavs called April 29 — Navy Day. It was customary to visit the burial places of deceased relatives and bring them demands. For long-dead loved ones, the rites were lowered into the water, saying:

Shine, shine, Sunshine!

I’ll give you an egg

Like a hen laying eggs in an oak grove,

Take him to heaven

May it bring joy to all souls.

*Treba is a Slavic term that denotes worship or offering, as well as sacrifice or administration of a sacrament, a sacred rite. “Treba” in Slavic means “I create for God’s soul” (“T” — teyu (I create), “R” — Ra (God), “B” — ba (soul)). The requirements of the Slavs are household items, food, which are made with their own hands. The food consisted of kutya, pies, rolls, pancakes, cheesecakes, colored eggs, wine, and beer.
