Artek residents from Donbass became participants of the Day of Equal Opportunities
CrimeaPRESS reports:
June in «Artek» was «Day of Equal Opportunities». Artek residents from the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics took part in the traditional inclusive holiday along with their teams. The children got acquainted with four Paralympic disciplines – wheelchair tennis, sitting volleyball, football for the blind and shooting for the blind. Volunteers and young Paralympians of specialized tennis squads helped them in this. Head of the Tennis in Artek program Galina Kaplan spoke about the mission of the holiday:
Today is a day for you to go through life easily and always remain people with a capital letter. May the sensations you receive remain with you and may your heart be open. When you return home and see a person who has poor vision, speaks sign language or moves in a wheelchair, it is good if at that very moment you remember everything that happened today and you really want to help him.
On the sports ground, the children were supported by young Paralympians — the absolute winner of the Russian Wheelchair Tennis Championship 2022 of the year Anya Orlova and the doubles finalist, winner in singles of the Russian Wheelchair Tennis Championship 2022 Platon Platunov.
The champions gave a master class to those who were not afraid to give up their usual opportunities for a while.
Artek from Donbass, together with other guys from different regions of Russia, were able to feel what special hearing, strength, speed and coordination one needs to have in order to take volleyball serves while sitting, play wheelchair tennis and score football goals, focusing on the sound of a ball with a bell.
On the Day of Equal Opportunities, Artek residents proved once again: nothing is impossible if you have a friendly team with you.
