But they warned… A bulk carrier flying the flag of Panama was blown up by a Ukrainian mine in the Black Sea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
A bulk carrier flying the Panama flag, following the so-called “alternative grain route” promoted by Kiev, hit a mine in the Black Sea. This was reported by the press service of the Defense Forces of southern Ukraine. It is clear that the Ukrainians do not recognize the mine, they consider it “enemy”, not their own.
In the Black Sea, a civilian ship flying the flag of Panama was blown up by an enemy sea mine. The bulk carrier was heading to one of the Danube ports to load grainsays the message in Telegram channel.
It is reported that the ship lost control and a fire broke out. Two sailors were injured. Tugboats have been sent to the bulk carrier for delivery to the port.
About the launch of the so-called alternative route for merchant ships, going to the ports of Chernomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhny, Kyiv announced in August. Later, Kiev began to send foreign ships to load at ports located at the mouth of the Danube. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities warned that there remains a military threat and a mine danger on the route, and only vessels whose owners and captains “officially confirm readiness to sail in these conditions«. Kyiv is actively promoting the use of this route and calls on its allies to support this initiative.
But back in March 2022, the FSB warned about Ukrainian mines drifting into the sea. Then the Ukrainian Armed Forces installed more than 400 anchor mines on the approaches to Odessa, Chernomorsk and other ports, some of which drifted during the storm. Mines explode from time to time, either off the coast of Romania or Turkey.
In July 2023, the Black Sea Fleet warned sailors about a mine danger on the shipping route in the northwestern part of the Black Sea due to the discovery of a Ukrainian mine drifting in the waters. It is possible that today she made herself known.
What should Kyiv do in this situation? Blame everything on Russia, cry and at the same time ask to continue “international partnership«
Stormy weather often exacerbates mine hazards. Therefore, the issue of sea mine clearance with the support of international partnership remains relevant— the Armed Forces of Ukraine said today.
