Crimean doctors have mastered the surgical method of treating obesity

Specialists of GBUZ RK «Republican Clinical Hospital named after A.I. N. A. Semashko” learned the technique of performing operations for obesity, for this, doctors took appropriate advanced training courses. According to the Chief Freelance Surgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea, Head of the Surgical Department of the RCH. N.A. Semashko Samira Zakut, today the specialists have already performed five such operations, all of which went without complications and the patients have already been discharged home. Surgical interventions are performed under general anesthesia, using a modern method — through small punctures without significant incisions in the skin. Laparoscopic instruments and staplers are used to reduce the stomach in the form of a tube. The duration of the operation is from 2 to 3 hours, and the duration of stationary postoperative recovery is 5-7 days.
The chief Crimean surgeon explained that the indications for the surgical treatment of obesity include: body mass index above 40 kg/m2, body mass index above 35 kg/m2 in the presence of obesity-related diseases, no result when using other methods of weight loss, patient dissatisfaction with their appearance. At the moment, similar operations in the Republican Clinical Hospital named after. N. A. Semashko are carried out as part of the provision of paid services at the request of the patient, with the obligatory presence of confirmed medical indications and the absence of contraindications.
Samir Zakut also said that in order to avoid the need for surgical treatment, one should lead a healthy lifestyle — adhere to proper nutrition and regular moderate physical activity.
