There John takes a vow of silence and after that, some time later, he even settles in the desert, where he lives alone for 9 years, eating only herbs. It is known that Abbot Savva persuaded John to return to the monastery, and the monk spent 66 years there. Having received a healing gift from God, John helped sick people day and night, healing them with the power of prayer.
