“Don Juan” from Sevastopol fell into the snare of an insidious extortionist from Voronezh

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Didactic story about Internet dating and “intimate photos.”

Employees of the department for combating cybercrimes of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol, together with colleagues from the Voronezh region, detained a suspect in extorting money from a resident of Sevastopol under the threat of disseminating intimate information.

It has been previously established that a 33-year-old Voronezh resident, for the purpose of illegally earning money, purchased a SIM card issued in the name of another person and an account on a social network under a girl’s fictitious name, and also registered in a dating application. There he met a 25-year-old resident of Sevastopol, sent him intimate photographs of women, which he passed off as his own, and asked him to reciprocate. Having received what he wanted and, having thus collected incriminating evidence, the attacker demanded money from him, blackmailing him with the distribution of photographs on the Internet. The victim complied with the extortionist’s demands and transferred him 20 thousand rubles— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

As a result of operational search activities, police officers identified and detained the suspect while on a business trip. The Voronezh resident admitted to what he had done and said that he saw an illegal scheme on the Internet and decided to “earn extra money” in this way.

During a search at the defendant’s place of residence, investigators seized a SIM card, a bank card, a router and other material evidence. A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Part 1 of Art. 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Extortion”). He faces imprisonment for up to four years.
