Ex-Minister of Culture of Crimea Vera (Arina) Novoselskaya «earned» 10 years in prison. The court announced the verdict

The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow on Tuesday sentenced former head of the Crimean Ministry of Culture Vera (Arina) Novoselskaya to 10 years in prison for taking a bribe of 25 million rubles during the construction of the Crimean State Center for Children’s Theater Arts. This is reported TASS.

The court found Novoselskaya guilty under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale) and sentenced her to 10 years in prison with serving in a penal colony— judge Irina Zorina read out the verdict.

The court also imposed an additional punishment on the ex-minister in the form of a fine of 128 million rubles, deprived him of the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation and banned him from holding positions in educational authorities for a period of 15 years.

As established by the court, in 2018, Novoselskaya received a bribe in the amount of 25 million rubles from the beneficiary Meander LLC for general patronage in the performance of construction and installation work during the construction of the Crimean State Center for Children’s Theater Arts. The court arrested the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Crimea in November 2021. The property of the official and members of her family was seized.

From 2007 to 2012, Novoselskaya was an assistant to the People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Netetskaya. Later, she became the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and after that, the artistic director-director of the Crimean Academic Puppet Theater. After the reunification of Crimea with Russia, Arina (name according to her passport — Vera) Novoselskaya became the head of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea. November 22, 2021 — Fired due to loss of confidence.
