From November 6 to November 12 in Russia — Week of Prevention of Respiratory Diseases
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Russia is celebrating Respiratory Disease Prevention Week in honor of World Pneumonia Day, which is celebrated on November 12.
Respiratory diseases are among the most common in medicine. This group also includes acute respiratory viral infections. Almost every healthy person can suffer from ARVI once a year. Respiratory diseases also include chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pneumonia and many others. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) ranks first among all respiratory diseases as the cause of death in patients. Smoking is a risk factor for the development of diseases such as lung cancer and COPDnoted the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea.
Passive smoking is the same risk factor for chronic bronchitis, COPD, emphysema, etc. Despite the fact that tobacco smoke particles do not accumulate in the lungs in the same concentration as in a smoker, long-term exposure to passive smoking leads to lung damage. Risk factors also include bacterial and viral infections. Vaccination allows not only to prevent the development of diseases, but also to cope with particularly severe cases. It is extremely important to get vaccinated against COVID-19, influenza and pneumococcal disease.
