«Garden of Memory»: Tauric Chersonese honored the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War
In Sevastopol, the annual action «Garden of Memory» was launched, the first participants of which were the employees of the museum-reserve. The goal of the International Campaign is to plant 27 million trees in memory of every one who died during the Great Patriotic War. Evergreen cypresses were planted on the territory of the future repository of the cultural institution, which will become a living reminder of the exploits of our ancestors and a symbol of the continuity of generations in the struggle for a world without Nazism. Tree planting by employees of Tauric Chersonesos was supported by the Nizhnegorsk fruit nursery.
For the fourth time, the action is supported by the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Public Projects, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Federal Forestry Agency, the all-Russian public movements “Volunteers of Victory” and “Volunteers of the Forest”, the Victory Generals Memorial Fund. Over the years of its holding, over 50 million people from more than 50 countries of the world have taken part in planting gardens.
According to the director of the museum-reserve E. A. Morozova, “remembering and honoring the feat of heroes is a sacred duty for each of us. People who defended at the cost of their lives a world without Nazism and a future for their descendants were, are and will forever remain heroes. We are proud to be taking part in an action that preserves history and commemorates the winners by creating a garden that will be a daily reminder of what previous generations had to go through while fighting for our future. I want to express my special gratitude to the director of the Nizhnegorsk fruit nursery, Alexander Yakovlevich Brigadier, for his support and indifferent attitude to the “Garden of Memory” action.”
The large-scale event allows not only to preserve the historical memory, but also to contribute to the greening of our country. The trees planted today in Sevastopol will not only make our city more beautiful, but will also become symbols reminiscent of the exploits of the heroes of the past and present in the victory over fascism at the cost of incredible efforts, and will create the continuity of generations in the battle for a world without Nazism. We are very glad that today it was Tauric Chersonesus that launched the Gardens of Russia campaign, which will allow us to preserve a page of history that cannot be forgotten and perpetuate the memory of people whose feat will live forever— noted in the press service of the museum-reserve «Tauric Chersonesos».
