Here's your storage… Hackers hacked Dropbox file hosting

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Cybercriminals have hacked Dropbox file hosting. RBC.

The company warned users about the cyber incident on its blog. It is reported that the attack affected user data of the Dropbox Sign service, which allows you to store, send, and sign documents online.

At the same time, users who had not previously created an account in the service had their email addresses and names freely available, the company’s message clarifies. If a password was not set for the user account (if registration was carried out, for example, through social networks), then the password information remained safe. It is noted that the company did not find any traces indicating unauthorized access to the contents of documents and customer agreements, as well as to their payment information.

The company is currently in the process of resetting user passwords.

Dropbox lost up to 50% of Russian users during 2023 and today is not very popular among Russians, noted Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications:

According to analysts, by 2024 the ecosystem will rank among the top five most popular file hosting services among citizens. Leadership currently belongs to Yandex. Disk». Based on this, a small proportion of our citizens were potentially affected, but they should definitely pay attention to the news about the hack and take a number of actions to protect their informationsays the deputy.

According to Nemkin, the company itself has already taken all necessary actions to mitigate possible risks.

In fact, all the user needs to do is create a new password for their account. Citizens who use one password for several services at once may fall into an increased risk group. For example, to log into email or social networks, as well as corporate services. In this case, you must immediately change all passwords. Let me remind you that you should always create a unique password for each service. Otherwise, attackers will be able to easily gain access to various applications, including banking ones. It is also important to enable two-factor authentication, especially for mail, instant messengers and social networks. With its help, attackers will not be able to gain access to the user account. In addition, citizens will always be warned about attempted unauthorized accessexplains the deputy.

Also, you should not store any sensitive information in file storage.

File storage is always under close scrutiny by attackers, so storing sensitive information is a risk that users should always be aware ofnotes the deputy.

Nemkin emphasized that sensitive data includes data from official documents, corporate information, as well as information that could potentially compromise the user in the public space. It is better to store such information on a personal computer or in paper form.
