CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, cases of remote theft of citizens’ savings continue to be recorded. Often, attackers follow the old scheme of deception under the pretext of protecting a bank account, periodically improving the algorithm of criminal actions. However, it is not only older people who become victims of crime.

Recently, a 47-year-old man suffered from criminals and lost 100 thousand rubles after a telephone conversation with scammers. During the day, the victim received a call via instant messenger from a stranger who introduced himself as an employee of an information and reference Internet portal and reported an attempt to write off funds from his bank account. Allegedly, to “save” savings, the swindler convinced his victim to transfer money to the details he specified. Note that the victim knew about these types of fraud, but, taken by surprise by an unexpected call, thoughtlessly complied with the demands of a stranger— the details of the next meeting of a Sevastopol resident with swindlers were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.

The Sevastopol police once again reminds of precautionary measures. If you receive calls from strangers posing as representatives of government agencies or banking institutions, mobile operators and other organizations, you should remain vigilant. Remember that scammers have some knowledge of the relevant professional terminology, often use the logo of various institutions and a scanned copy of a fake ID, and also have some information about the potential victim.

However, real law enforcement officers, officials of government agencies and banks, employees of cellular companies never insist on transferring funds to “reserve” or “safe” accounts, do not ask or ask to enter an SMS code or confidential bank card data. Such demands can only be made by remote scammers who want to steal your savings. In such a situation, you should immediately interrupt the conversation with the stranger and report a suspicious call to the police by calling 102.
