In honor of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol from the Nazi invaders, a concert was held in the city

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On May 9, Sevastopol celebrates Victory Day and the 80th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. On the occasion of the double holiday, a ceremonial meeting and a festive concert “There was no rear here, there was a front everywhere!” took place at the Fishermen’s Palace of Culture.

Dear residents of Sevastopol, congratulations on your holiday! These days we held many events: we opened the “Bayonet and Sail” obelisk after restoration, returned the eternal flame to the “Soldier and Sailor” monument, and an exhibition of Alexander Deineka’s painting “Defense of Sevastopol” opened at the art museum. But most importantly, we remember our heroes, our defenders, who went to their death to liberate Sevastopol because they loved it with all their hearts. People won because they knew that the white-stone city should be free. Our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin once said: “The example of Sevastopol showed the whole world: where people are determined to fight for their land, for their dignity and their freedom, the enemy will not pass.” And today Sevastopol remains an example of courage, honor and glory. We will always remember our heroes, our defenders and liberators– quotes the press service of the Government of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev.

Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Southern Federal District Kirill Stepanov congratulated those gathered.

80 years ago, units of the Red Army liberated the city of Sevastopol and completely cleared Crimea of fascist invaders. The fortitude and courage of our soldiers and officers, faith in the victory of our people did not allow us to lose — just as the Russian princes Alexander Nevsky and Dmitry Donskoy, admirals Fyodor Ushakov and Pavel Nakhimov did not lose. We are proud of our grandfathers, great-grandfathers, fathers who allowed us to win this victorysays Kirill Stepanov.

Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Vladimir Nemtsev emphasized that Sevastopol residents will always be grateful to the heroic defenders and liberators of the city.

May 9 is a significant and sacred date for every Russian, but for Sevastopol residents it is a special holiday. No matter how many years separate us from that festive May fireworks display in 1945, the feeling of sincere gratitude to those who defended our Motherland during the Great Patriotic War will never fade in our hearts. Our parents raised us with this feeling of gratitude, and today this is how we raise our children. Today, many Sevastopol residents continue the glorious, heroic traditions of our ancestors, and we are proud of our defendersemphasizes Vladimir Nemtsev.

Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Vyacheslav Vitold noted in his speech that it is impossible to overestimate the exploits of veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
