In one day, online scammers deceived five residents of Sevastopol. «Catch» — more than two million

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Over the past 24 hours, the Sevastopol police were contacted by five citizens aged from 56 to 83 years old who had suffered from scammers using the most common criminal schemes. The total amount of material damage amounted to 2 million 270 thousand rubles.

The theft of funds occurred according to the scheme “Your relative caused an accident”, under the pretext of protecting money in a bank account and after installing mobile remote access applications— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

“Your relative caused an accident.”

An 83-year-old pensioner suffered from a popular scheme when a scammer called her landline phone, introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that her daughter was the culprit of the accident. Allegedly to free the relative from criminal liability, the fake law enforcement officer convinced the elderly woman to transfer all her savings to a controlled courier. Having trusted the telephone scammer, the victim lost 9 thousand US dollars, which is equivalent to 823 thousand rubles.

Dear residents of Sevastopol! Tell your elderly relatives about this scheme, warn that if you receive such calls, you should immediately stop talking, contact your loved ones yourself and report to the police— law enforcement officers addressed the townspeople.

“Protecting” money in a bank account.

Using instant messengers, two pensioners, 65 and 67 years old, received a call from scammers who introduced themselves as employees of a regional commercial bank and reported that criminals were trying to steal their money from their bank accounts. The false employees convinced the victims to transfer their savings — 203 and 274 thousand rubles to the accounts dictated to them.

Remember: alleged problems with your bank accounts, as well as transfers to a “safe” or “reserve” account, are scammers’ tricks! NEVER follow instructions over the phone or you will lose all your money,” the Sevastopol police remind.

The scammers called two local residents, 56 and 79 years old, introduced themselves as cellular operators and, in one case, supposedly to improve the quality of communication, and in the second, supposedly to ensure the security of the device, convinced them to install remote access applications on their smartphones. After the victims followed the instructions, the attackers gained access to their online banking, stole a total of 970 thousand rubles from the victims and deleted all data on their mobile phones, resetting them to factory settings.

Remember: NEVER install third-party applications on your smartphones under the dictation of callers — this is very dangerous,” summarized the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
