In Sevastopol they intend to restore the Peter and Paul Church of the 19th century

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Sevastopol, consecrated in 1814 and a cultural heritage site, will be restored. The cathedral will be examined and a restoration project will be developed in 2025, reported TASS Dean of the Sevastopol District, Archpriest Sergius Khalyuta.

Since the cathedral is a cultural heritage site, first of all we must carry out a rather expensive restoration project. After examining the cathedral, we will be able to clarify the damage that we need to eliminate. As a rule, the cost of the project is 10-15% of the cost of further work. Therefore, the priority plan for 2025 is a survey of the cathedral and a project for its restorationsaid the agency’s interlocutor.

According to the project of architects and students of the City Development Institute of Sevastopol State University, the square near the temple was completely renovated. A concrete covering was installed on the territory using travertine. As the head of the city, Mikhail Razvozhaev, noted, travertine is being used in the city for the first time; according to the architects, the material will “age beautifully”, giving the square its individuality. A drainage system was also created in the park, lighting, video cameras, benches, trash cans were installed, and the lawn was sown. In addition, using archival materials, it was possible to restore the columns at the entrance.

The Peter and Paul Church is an example of architecture from the era of Russian classicism and is designed in the style of the ancient Greek Temple of Theseus in Athens, consecrated on September 5, 1814. After the war, the building was restored in 1888 at the expense of merchants Maksimov and Kundyshev-Volodin; after the revolution, the city archive was placed in the temple. During the Great Patriotic War, the cathedral survived, from 1946 to 1957 it hosted performances of the Lunacharsky Theater, then it housed the City House of Culture. In the summer of 2006, worship was restored, and the cathedral was handed over to the church community.
